About the project
A sharper answer than “this lens is good.”
Fuji Gear Index is an independent, evidence-led guide for photographers deciding which native X-mount lenses can make meaningful use of Fujifilm’s 40.2-megapixel APS-C sensor.
Why this exists
Lens recommendations often blend resolution, autofocus, rendering, price, size, and personal taste into one opaque verdict. That is useful for storytelling but poor for comparison. This project separates measurable resolving performance from handling and creative character, then shows the evidence behind each conclusion.
The index includes Fujinon lenses and native X-mount lenses from major third-party makers. It is designed as a living reference, not a declaration that the highest-scoring lens is automatically the best purchase.
X-mount lenses are the first chapter. The broader Fuji Gear Index will expand into GFX equipment and practical accessory recommendations while keeping the same source-led editorial standard.
Editorial principles
- Primary evidence first.Official, lens-specific technical material is linked to the exact product or specification page whenever it exists.
- Measurements before reputation.Comparable MTF curves and controlled resolution tests establish the optical order. Reviews settle close calls or fill clearly labelled gaps.
- Uncertainty stays visible.A precise-looking number does not erase differences in sensors, chart methods, sample variation, focusing, or processing.
- Corrections are part of the work.New evidence can change a score, confidence interval, or ranking. Material revisions are dated and explained.
- Commercial relationships stay separate.Advertising, sponsorship, or affiliate revenue will never purchase a ranking or suppress a negative finding.
